The Rule of Law is more than “law” or “laws”.
It is the anchor of our shared hope as civilized people.
It has been abused, ignored, attacked, ridiculed, and violated in every nation that has fallen into ruin.
The Rule of Law fastens our faith as a united people.
Without it we are wanderers, each seeking to satisfy his or her independent will apart from the needs of others, without regard for those things we can only enjoy when we work together in harmony to create them.
The Rule of Law is a moral compass that has guided courageous men and women to establish nations predicated on the sacred premise that laws, not men, should govern us.
Without it we and our loved ones fall prey to the tyranny that always follows when indolence and ignorance hold wide the door for men to rule us with merciless military hands.
The Rule of Law has survived war upon war to restore the landmarks of Justice and Reason set for us by a bygone generation that knew the necessity of rules that all mankind can cherish and abide, rules we in this generation dare not forget, ignore, or devalue.
The Rule of Law lifts for us the lamp of fixed principles by which we can establish and, when necessary, re-establish governments as democratic republics constrained by wise constitutions. It calls us to a noble enterprise, opening unlimited vistas of opportunity for every living soul, relieving the oppressed, establishing order, securing liberty, and promoting justice for absolutely everyone.
To lose it is social suicide.
To doubt it is to abandon everything we hold dear but too often take for granted.
To evade it is cowardice.
To cherish it is patriotism in its purest form.
To teach it is wisdom.
