What makes good law “good” and bad law “bad”?
As children playing made-up games we knew when a rule was un-fair. The idea of fairness and Justice wasn’t complicated. We didn’t need a law school degree. If a rule wasn’t fair to one, then it wasn’t fair to anyone.
We stuck to that premise. We got and gave black eyes over it. We fought for Justice, even as small children.
Who is fighting for justice today?
Many laws in this and other nations today are decidedly un-fair. You know this. You see it. You feel it in your pocketbook. Too many laws benefit a favored few while shifting tax and other heavy burdens onto the rest of us. The burdens are getting heavier. In some places the unjust weight breaks people. Faith in the fairness of government fades away.
Too many suffer from laws that are un-fair, un-just, and ultimately illegitimate and therefore reversible!
What have we failed to do that we could have done?
Why do we allow our lawmakers to continue favoring some at the expense of others?
Why do we allow our lawmakers to revise the very core of what was once our shared beliefs about right and wrong?
Who will pull the bad laws down and force lawmakers to write better laws that are fair for the rest of us?
